For me the most powerful and true part of this book, which I try to instill in all my clients is that people now own a network database. Cloud computing? We are all up in the clouds, but need to ensure this is physically collected in a safe place, as you rightfully say.

Great e-book!

Have you found a way to export from Facebook? Or does it require a few more steps than a basic "Click here, silly?"

Hi Guys,
Heard about this through a Tweet. I get that what you're aiming for is the networking of your networks. Right now social network contact lists are like flat data bases - information in several places with no connections between them. What you're suggesting is a work-around - tagging connected information in several places to get the complete picture. Excellent concept and thanks especially for the hands-on how-to.

Why isn't this paper called "How to export contacts from LinkedIn"? That seems to be all it is.

Is building and nurturing your social network really only about copying VCF files around?

If you've something interesting to say, your network will grow, organically, meritocratically. That's the priority.

Scraping contacts from one network and hounding them down on others is veering close towards spamfulness.

Haven't read all the way through but hit a road bump -- my LinkedIn first degrees are select, and there are people on that list who probably appreciate that.

So any system like this that depends on my entire contact list linking on LinkedIn? Not going to work. On Facebook, I'll friend almost anyone, on twitter I'll follow if you're interesting even if I don't know you -- but on LinkedIn, not so much.

It'll probably work great for a lot of people, though!
